One of Watauga Lake's Finest Views

Eagles Peak, our lakeside paradise, rises on the hillside just above Watauga Lake, with one of the finest views on the water: the lake spread out below the deck and framed by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lake access is just across the road, where you will find a community dock and boat slip, with a canoe and life vests included. Watauga Lake is one of Tennessee's Bill Dance Signature Lakes, the only one in the northeast corner of the state, known for trout fishing and 106 miles of shoreline backed by the Cherokee National Forest.

Inside you will find a stone fireplace, a fully stocked kitchen, bedrooms that look out at the lake, and comfortable places to gather. Outside, the wraparound deck, luxury hot tub, and gas fire table give everyone room to spread out. Whether you are sipping coffee on the deck above the water, gathering around the fire after a day on the lake, or soaking in the hot tub while the mountains go quiet, this is a cabin built for time together. Guests also enjoy exclusive use of our private Eagles Peak Nature Retreat just up the road (more below), and Blowing Rock, Boone, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are all an easy drive.

Your Private Nature Retreat

A short walk from the cabin, about 0.2 miles up the road, is the Eagles Peak Nature Retreat: a private piece of land we own and set aside just for our guests. It is a quiet, wooded spot with a covered picnic shelter, a charcoal grill, and a fire pit strung with lights, a relaxed place to cook out, gather in the evening, or make s'mores under the trees. It is included with your stay and yours to enjoy anytime during your visit.

2 full bathrooms (main floor walk-in shower; upstairs tub/shower combo)

Good to Know

  • Quiet lake community. Eagles Peak is in a quiet development, and a strict noise ordinance prohibits parties, loud music, and other loud noise. Quiet hours run from 10:00 PM until sunrise.
  • Check-in and checkout. Check-in is 4:00 PM and checkout is 10:00 AM. A 1:00 PM early check-in or late checkout is occasionally possible, and it is not something that can be added at booking. Message Julie with your request and, if the cleaning schedule between guests allows, she will approve it and arrange the $65 plus tax fee with you. It is confirmed the day before your arrival or departure.
  • Getting here. The driveway has a sharp switchback at the bottom and the top of a steep hill. We send turn-by-turn directions before arrival, since mountain GPS is not always reliable.
  • Winter travel. Please come prepared for mountain winter weather. A 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended any time snow is expected, and during heavier snow or ice, tire chains may also be needed on the rural mountain roads. Higher elevations can see snow a little earlier and later than the typical winter season. We are not able to provide refunds or transportation assistance for weather-related access issues.
  • Parking, trailers, and boats. The paved driveway accommodates up to 3 vehicles. All trailers and boats must be parked at the bottom of the driveway, detached from the vehicle, or alongside the road near Dock B.
  • The Nature Retreat. Access is exclusive to Eagles Peak guests and a gate code is provided after booking. AWD or 4WD is needed to drive up the cleared natural driveway, or you can park at the gate at the bottom of the hill and walk up. A motion-sensor wildlife trail camera sits near the top of that driveway, pointed down the drive rather than at the retreat area.
  • Dock and canoe. The community dock and boat slip are reached by the deeded footpath down a nearby driveway or by the Dock B stairs. The green canoe on Dock B labeled Eagles Peak is ours and is yours to use, with oars and life vests inside the cabin.
  • Pets. Up to 2 dogs are welcome with a reservation. The pet fee is $90 plus tax, per dog, per stay when you book direct. Dogs only, no other pets, and no pit bulls. Dogs must be leashed any time they are outside the home, including in the driveway and on walks. Traveling with more than two dogs? Send us a note before you book and we will let you know whether we can accommodate them.
  • Smoking. This is a non-smoking property. Smoking, tobacco, and vaping products of any kind are not permitted inside the home.
  • Standby generator. The cabin is equipped with a backup whole-house generator, so the essentials keep running regardless of the weather.
  • Starter supplies. Beds are made and towels are set out before you arrive, and we stock a small starter supply of conditioning shampoo, body wash, hand soap, dish detergent, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, coffee pods, and tea. It is enough to get you comfortably settled in, so please plan to bring whatever else your group will need for the rest of your stay.
  • Minimum age. The primary guest must be at least 25 years of age to book.
